Job DescriptionMetro State University, a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, is seeking to hire a Assistant Professor. This is a full-time probationary tenure-track position within the Psychology Department in the College of Community Studies and Public Affairs and will start on August 18, 2025.ResponsibilitiesFaculty members are expected to:Demonstrate the ability to teach Psychology courses effectively to a post-traditional student population and contribute to meaningful assessment of student learning.Engage in scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research.Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study.Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance.Engage in service to the university and community.Demonstrate a commitment to serving a diverse student body by delivering a student-centered education and using approaches that support equitable outcomes for all students.Provide excellent learning environments through in-person, online, and/or hybrid course modalities.Minimum QualificationsA Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology. ABDs with expected completion by August 15, 2025 will be considered.Demonstrated potential for success in teaching and professional service activities, particularly teaching Diversity and Ethics in Psychology.Demonstrated potential and a plan for scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research in Psychology or related disciplines. This plan should include how students could be involved in the research.Effective Communication skills (written and verbal) to communicate with a variety of persons and groups.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an institution with a culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse workforce and student population.Demonstrated ability and desire to work collegially with faculty and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds.Preferred QualificationPh.D. in Psychology completed by August 15th, 2025 in PsychologyDemonstrated expertise in the teaching of Diversity and Ethics, which should include knowledge of diversity science, racial issues, and/or inclusion.Demonstrated expertise teaching in teaching other courses such as Research Methods, Life-Span Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Sensation Perception, Personality, Abnormal Psychology, and courses focused on Multiculturalism and Inclusion.Demonstrated effectiveness teaching at a post-secondary level using multiple platforms (e.g., in person, online, hybrid or mixed-modes, etc.).Experience developing course curricula at a post-secondary institution.Demonstrated contributions to assessment of student learning at a post-secondary institution.Professional development and/or expertise in culturally responsive pedagogy, anti-racist pedagogy, and/or universal design.Experience as an academic advisor for students at post-secondary institution.Other RequirementsNotice: In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State?s vehicle use criteria and consent to a motor vehicle records check.*To comply with privacy and data practices requirements, please refrain from including personal information or photographs in your application materials.Applications must be received by 12:01 AM on Closing Date: March 10, 2025 Qualified applicants are required to attach the following documents to their online application: Cover letter of interest addressing your qualifications for the position;Current curriculum vita or resume;A statement of your teaching philosophy and examples of teaching effectiveness, including how it relates to equity and anti-racist pedagogy (limit 2 pages);A written plan for scholarly activity or research in Psychology or related disciplines, which should include how students could be involved in the research.Names of four (4) references with addresses, email addresses and telephone numbers; at least two (2) of the references must be able to address teaching effectiveness; andTranscripts - Valid unofficial copies of your transcript showing conferred/awarded date of your highest attained degree, with your name and the academic institution?s name/logo are required. CCSPA is a community-engaged College and programs are designed to help students find creative ways to engage with, learn from, and contribute to the growth and sustainability of the urban and regional communities we serve.The School/Academic Department: Psychology is among the top majors at Metropolitan State, and Psychology courses also support the general education program and students completing individualized degrees. The Department has 12 full-time faculty and graduates over 150 majors per year, with degrees in Psychology (BA) or Early Childhood Studies (BAS).The Psychology curriculum has required a foundational course in Diversity and Ethics in Psychology for 25 years. We are searching for a new faculty member who could coordinate this course as it continues to evolve. The new faculty could also teach or expand course offerings in multiculturalism and inclusion. We are open to faculty across specialty areas.Faculty and students have access to the Psychology Lab, including select equipment and workspaces to conduct research.
