Job Description Montgomery College is seeking three (3) Communication Studies full-time faculty members to start in August 2025 for the 2025-2026 academic year. We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated teachers who exhibit a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit. Our exceptionally talented Communication Studies faculty teach in one of the highest-enrolled Associate of Arts degree programs at the college, with more than 350 majors. With a long history of successfully preparing students for transfer to four-year institutions including UMCP, UMGC, Loyola, Washington Adventist, and WVU, our program ranks consistently in the top ten for MC majors who go on to graduate from a four-year college or university. The department offers an interdisciplinary Certificate in Business Communication. Communication is a discipline that also serves degree and transfer programs in general at MC; it is a very popular elective for students in many programs and a direct requirement for students in others. We are seeking full-time Communication Studies faculty members who are excited by this level of excellence and are committed to student success. The successful candidate supports MC's demonstrated commitment to radical inclusion, welcomes the opportunity to work with students with diverse learning abilities, and has experience with engaging and motivating students in multiple instructional modes. Faculty duties include classroom instruction, assessment, curriculum development, advising, serving on campus and departmental committees and task forces, and engaging in continued professional development. Regular teaching assignments include face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses during days, evenings, and weekends, and may be located at any of MC's three campuses, the East County Education Center, and area high schools. Faculty in this position will teach some multi-section courses; close coordination with other program faculty and adherence to common course assignments are required. The majority of our courses use open educational resources (OERs) to yield cost savings for the students and the most current content for faculty. Incoming faculty will utilize OERs in alignment with the other faculty in the discipline. Duties include but are not limited to: Teach 30 semester hours per academic year of various communications courses including foundations of human communication, public relations, business and professional speech communication, introduction to communication theory and inquiry, and journalism at any location Montgomery College offers classes. Incorporate Blackboard and other relevant technology into instruction. Teach a varied schedule of courses that may include day, night, early morning, weekend, and/or accelerated sections, compressed and online. Opportunities may exist for teaching summer classes. Coordinate with other faculty and participate in the creation of common assignments in multiple-section courses, selection of textbooks, and development of Open Educational Resources and other instructional materials. Participate in the department's scheduled assessment of student learning at the course, program, and institutional level, and contribute to ongoing results-driven curricular improvements. Engage students in their learning through culturally relevant, active, and collaborative learning approaches. Meet with students outside of class to assist them with being successful college students and to connect students to appropriate campus-support services. Advise students about program curriculum, transfer issues, and careers in communications fields. Serve on or lead department, discipline, campus, and college committees. Maintain an active program of professional development and participate in professional organizations and activities. Understand and commit to student success including increasing retention, transfer, and graduation rates while contributing to an equitable and inclusive learning environment for diverse students. Assist in the marketing and promotion of the program by participating in college-sponsored events and by visiting local businesses and schools. Required Qualifications: A Master's degree in Communication Studies with an emphasis in public speaking, small group communication, business communication, interpersonal and intercultural communication. College-level teaching experience in communications studies. Demonstrated ability to use an educational enterprise platform such as Blackboard in instructional delivery. Preferred Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Communication Studies, Human Communication, or a closely related field. The ideal candidate will have expertise in interpersonal communication, small group communication, public speaking, and intercultural communication. Experience supporting students who have varying levels of preparedness for college-level work. Experience teaching a diverse population that includes native and non-native English speakers. Understanding of and commitment to student success including increasing retention, transfer, and graduation rates. Experience integrating technology into course delivery to enhance student learning. Experience developing open education resources as an instruction tool. Experience assessing student learning outcomes. Evidence of ongoing professional development. Hiring Range: $62,319 - $94,876 .
