As a Capital Project Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and strategic direction for capital, maintenance, and engineering functions across multiple locations. This role involves overseeing complex capital projects, facility upgrades, and operational improvements to ensure the reliability, efficiency, and compliance of all facilities. Additionally, you will mentor and develop emerging engineering talent, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
In this role, you will take ownership of capital investment processes, from developing business cases to executing strategic capital projects that drive bottom-line results. You will lead efforts in financial control, engineering practices, and capital budget planning, ensuring alignment with business objectives. Your expertise in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Continuous Improvement methodologies will play a critical role in optimizing project planning and execution.
A core aspect of your responsibilities will be to prioritize engineering and maintenance projects, ensuring all efforts contribute to the company's operational goals. You will also oversee equipment installations, facility upgrades, and compliance initiatives, working closely with cross-functional teams to drive project success. Given the scope of this role, travel will be required to various plant operations to provide hands-on leadership and support.
As a Capital Project Engineer, you will interact regularly with operators, maintenance teams, plant management, finance executives, and external vendors. Clear and proactive communication is essential, ensuring that project status, challenges, and key updates are conveyed in a timely and effective manner. Your ability to build strong relationships and foster a culture of trust, respect, and teamwork will be critical to success in this role.
They are seeking a highly experienced military professional with expertise in asset management, capital project execution, and engineering leadership. A bachelor's degree in pulp/paper science, engineering, or a related field is required, while a master's degree in engineering, finance, or business is preferred. The company is looking to the military community due to past success as the hiring manager is former military.
Ideally, a candidate comes from an area of the military that has depth of experience in areas such as the Army Corps of Engineers, Navy Seabee, or other Construction Battalions. Or, coming from a project heavy environment where industrial systems, technology, and construction converges.
Additional qualifications include:
- Proven track record in developing and implementing capital effectiveness processes
- Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt) or experience with continuous improvement technologies
- Strong decision-making skills with the ability to prioritize and execute complex projects
- Ability to mentor and develop engineering talent, particularly interns, co-ops, and new hires
- Demonstrated expertise in budget management, process optimization, and performance improvement
This role requires the ability to work in both office and industrial settings, including pulp and paper mill environments. Candidates must be comfortable wearing required personal protective equipment and navigating rough outdoor terrain. Given the nature of capital projects, flexibility in working extended hours and traveling when necessary.
Base salary, $120K - $140K, DOE, with a possible performance bonus. They offer medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401k, 11 holidays and 3 flex holidays.
