Position Specific Description
This position is in the Environmental Licensing & Permitting Section of the Corporate Environmental Services Department supporting new transmission development projects for NextEra Energy Transmission and its affiliates.
The selected candidate will lead a team of environmental professionals and will have responsibility for helping shape environmental strategy, leading environmental due diligence, and obtaining state/federal environmental permits for projects throughout the Western US.
The successful applicant must have relevant transmission permitting experience and the ability to lead, with limited direction, a team of environmental professionals supporting transmission and substation development projects, including competitive transmission solicitations, greenfield development projects and due diligence for potential mergers and acquisitions.
The applicant must possess strong leadership and communication skills, be schedule and process driven, be capable of interpreting pertinent federal, state, and local environmental policies and regulations, be able to effectively interface with internal and external customers, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, and have strong problem-solving skills to assist in resolving complex environmental matters.
This position is based in NextEra's Juno Beach office and will be 5 days a week onsite. Occasional travel will be required.
Key Responsibilities:
• Manage a team of professionals responsible for environmental due diligence and permitting
• Obtain federal and state environmental licenses, permits and approvals for development projects
• Support multiple projects with multifaceted environmental and regulatory issues
• Assist in comprehensive environmental due diligence reviews for potential acquisitions
• Support development of competitive bids for transmission solicitations
• Maintain current knowledge of pertinent national and state environmental policies and regulations
• Interface with internal and external customers, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company policies
• Provide specialized environmental expertise and environmental technical support
• Project Planning, Budget and Schedule Management
• Provide strategic management and oversight of environmental field studies and consultants
• Assess and communicate environmental risk
• Negotiate with regulatory agencies
• Manage personnel activities such as hiring, performance goal setting and evaluations, and mentoring
