Job Summary

THIS IS AVAILABLE TO EMPLOYEES IN THE DEPARTMENT OF IET-OPERATIONS (Client Success unit) ONLY.

Reporting to the IET Desktop Services Manager, this position provides computer, network and conference room support and consulting services to executives and clients throughout the campus. Work is predominantly performed independently at customer sites including providing occasional after hours and on call support. Analyze, plan, design, develop, test, implement, administer, secure and troubleshoot desktop, laptop, server and hand-held computer systems and PDAs and associated hardware, operating systems and software. Provide advanced email, network and VPN support, integration and consulting services. Provide campus Cyber-Safety and other information technology security support.

Minimum Qualifications
For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license, certification and/or educational degree if required of the position.

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Experience performing needs analyses, system planning, design, procurement, testing, implementation, administration, troubleshooting, problem remediation, documentation and capacity planning for MS OS and environments, including Windows 11/10/8/7 and associated hardware (laptops, desktops, mobile devices).
  • Experience with Windows networking and filesharing within complex Active Directory environments and administration of high network hardware and software, and SSL VPN appliances.
  • Experience assessing client needs and expectations to provide technical solutions quickly under pressure.
  • Proficiency with laptops & desktop systems running Mac OS 14/13/12/11x, iPhones and iPads as well as current iOS versions.
  • Written and verbal communication skills to plan, write and present project proposals, project plans and status reports and ability to explain technical information to a variety of audiences including non-technical staff.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Azure and working with PowerShell, SharePoint and supporting web sites.
  • Experience with complex switched & routed IP network topologie and using & supporting MS Office 2007 applications, File & Print servers.
  • Experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting & performing basic maintenance on networked printers, similar hardware devices.
  • Experience providing technical support to Executives at UC Davis.
  • Organizational skills to coordinate several activities with strict deadlines, complex scheduling requirements.
  • Understanding of IP layer-2 & layer-3 network management, routing protocols, DNS & NAC.
  • Skills to assess computer system security; plan, design & recommend, test, implement, document & maintain operating & application security policies, procedures & practices additionally to maintain anti-virus, personal firewall & similar software security programs.
  • Skills to integrate computer & network systems with campus middleware services: 'secureweb', LDAP, CAS & campus root Active Directory.
  • Skills to integrate department applications & systems with the campus' primary administrative applications.

    Department Overview
    The mission of Information and Educational Technology (IET) is to create and support an information technology environment that enhances the ability of the UC Davis community to teach, do research and provide public service. The IET Desktop Services (IETDS) team within IET Operations-Client Success, provides desktop support and engineering for IET and campus clients.

    Work Environment
  • Due to the mission-critical services provided by this department, this position may work hours other than M-F 8-5, especially in response to system problems. Routinely on-call and a cell phone. Travel between campus and off-campus locations. Work site varies from central campus, Sacramento UCD Medical Center, and at other UC sites. Valid CA driver's license; participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System. Vacation is restricted during peak work periods. Adhere to workplace safety practices, read information communicated about workplace safety, complete required safety training on time, and report any workplace safety issues promptly to their supervisor or the designated safety coordinator.
