Admin Coord/Project Coord - Military Veterans

The Project Coordinator plays a key role in the Monitoring the Future longitudinal panel survey research project. The MTF Panel study also conducts a number of important supplemental studies to investigate innovative study procedures and outcomes. Working closely with the Project Coordinator this position will perform a variety of tasks to ensure the success of these survey research projects and the annual MTF survey of over 20,000 participants per year. This position will manage all aspects of the mortality status coding of the study sample of over 116,000 participants. Please note: The salary for this position at an 80% effort would fall within the range of $44,000 to $56,000.

National Death Index (NDI) Project Development (20%)

As part of the panel leadership team, assist in the development, management and daily activities of the National Death Index coding project for the Monitoring the future Panel study. The project involves determining study participant mortality status as compared to current project data, and evaluating NDI death certificate matches which appropriately assigns cause of death. The sample size for each full submission to NDI is approximately 22,000 participants and 55,000 death certificates.

  • Hire, and train up to ten temporary coding team members.
  • Develop, update and maintain standardized coding procedures and rules.
  • Document procedures in a coding manual.
  • Review and summarize final statistics of the project.

NDI Project Management (50%)
  • Monitor the daily performance of the coding team.
  • Perform coding duties alongside the coding team.
  • Provide individual and group feedback for coding team members.

Nonresponse Participant Tracking (15%)
  • Track lost or non responding participants (annual N ~ 20,000) to locate new telephone or address contact information using a variety of methods.
  • Review and finalize non-response cases sent to the Survey Research Operations Survey Services Lab for nonresponse follow-up in summer and for calling to locate subjects in winter.
  • Use web-based resources to find leads or verify addresses.

Data Collection Activities (15%)
  • Prepare name and address files for a vendor to mail newsletters and reminders to respondents.
  • Assist with the preparation and fulfillment of follow-up questionnaire mailings.
  • Assist with the sample location/tracking and management for new supplementary studies.
  • Contact participants to confirm identity and participant status.
  • Monitor the study email box; answer participant questions or handle problems with active surveys.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of new data collection studies.
  • Graduation from a college or university with at least three years relevant experience
  • At least two years of experience with human subjects data collection
  • Excellent organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail, especially in managing data and participant information. Excellent attention to detail
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously, resolve participant issues, and manage workflow effectively. Ability to handle a variety of tasks in one day
  • Effective team player but continue to work well as part of a team
  • Ability to adjust to evolving project needs and deadlines, particularly during busy periods
