Intellectual Property Analyst (IP OFCR 2)
Job Summary
Under general supervision of a senior member of the Innovation Access team (for instance, an Associate Director, a Senior Intellectual Property Officer, or an Intellectual Property Officer) provide analytical support for identifying, fostering, protecting and commercializing the innovations arising out of the University of California, Davis. Innovation Access works on behalf of Innovation & Technology Commercialization and the Office of Research. Working with a senior member, manages a complex portfolio of intellectual property assets and licensing agreements, or may manage a select portfolio of intellectual property assets in a team with other IPAs, under the guidance of a senior member. Working with a senior member, drafts and reviews IP agreements, usually starting from an approved template, to ensure compliance with Federal government regulations, UC policies and guidelines. Assists with the evaluation of technological and commercial value of new invention disclosures. Participates in Innovation Access' client engagement activities by communicating with researchers, other research administration professionals, outside legal counsel, and staff at collaborating academic institutions and companies.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, with a major in a STEM field or commensurate educational or career experience.
- Experience analyzing, drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and interpreting high-level analytical assignments; comprehending and employing legal, medical, and scientific terminology; IP laws; and terminology.
- Experience with patent and contract law, contract terminology, legal terminology, and managing and processing contracts.
- Experience exercising discretion, integrity and sound judgment to manage and protect and confidential information.
- Experience with computer software such as but not limited to Project and Document Management platforms, Technology Transfer management platforms, electronic notetaking, MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Internet access software.
- Solid oral and written Interpersonal communication skills to effectively communicate, Advise and Counsel internal and external clients.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree with a major in a STEM field or commensurate educational or career experience.
- Experience performing high level analytical assignments; comprehending and employing legal, medical and scientific terminology; IP laws; and terminology.
- Experience with copyright law and related terminology.
- Knowledge of UC policy, principles and guidelines pertaining to research, confidentiality, publication, and IP.

Department Overview
The IPO 2 position can encompass a range of skills and experience, from individuals transitioning to a career in intellectual property management to individuals with significant experience in supporting such programs, with specific job responsibilities and assignments commensurate with the individual's experience. Less experienced individuals will be given the opportunity to, and be expected to, over time, develop and build the skills required to progress to more senior analyst roles within Innovation Access. More experienced individuals may be asked to provide mentorship roles for IP Analysts.

Work Environment
