Position Summary

As a part of Student Engagement and Well-Being at Metropolitan State University of Denver, the Office of the Dean of Students is committed to student safety and well-being by fostering a university community of integrity and respect. Functions within the Dean of Students Office include: student conduct, student conflict resolution services, coordination of the CARE Team (behavioral intervention team), and the Student Care Center. Operating as a branch within the Dean of Students Office, the Student Care Center provides non-clinical case management, generalized support and referrals for students in crisis, manages the CARE Team (Case Management), oversees the Student Emergency Fund, and assists students in pursuing resources to address unmet basic needs.

The Compliance & Operations Manager will play a critical role in the Dean of Students Office by assisting in the production of compliance reports (e.g. Clery Act Annual Security Report, Drug Free Schools and Communities Report); improving reporting processes by developing or building upon processes, practices, communication, activities, and record-keeping; and developing a more robust student employee professional development program. Additionally, the Compliance & Operations Manager assists with the database management responsibilities (using Maxient system) and coordinates assessment functions for the Dean of Students Office.

This position reports to and works with the Associate Dean of Students to ensure that MSU Denver is in compliance with all regulations included the Clery Act, Violence Against Women Act, and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act.

The Manager works with the Assistant Director of Student Accountability and Behavioral Intervention on updating and maintaining our Maxient database. Duties/Responsibilities

35% " Compliance activities related to Clery Act, Violence Against Women Act, Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act, as well as any other applicable compliance regulations.

  • Collaborate with Associate Dean of Students to gather, review, corroborate, write, and publish Annual Security Report, Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Report, and any other reports designated as the responsibility of the Dean of Students Office.
  • Assist with the compilation of any data and/or information requested from the Dean of Students Office in order to complete compliance reports that are the responsibility of other offices.
  • Coordinate with the Auraria Campus Police Department to ensure that all appropriate information has been shared for record-keeping and reporting purposes.
  • Enter Annual Security Report information into the Department of Education portal.
  • Work with Dean of Students Office and other departments to develop or improve data collection processes in order to improve and/or streamline the outcomes of compliance reporting processes.
  • Analyze areas for improvement in reporting processes and propose solutions for addressing those areas for improvement.
  • Establish timelines for best results in completion of reports. Work with appropriate parties to ensure applicable timelines and deadline dates are integrated into their respective calendars.
  • Collaborate with Associate Dean of Students to convene and lead working group to thoroughly review expectations of Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act and assess our institutional compliance. Lead the working group in the generation and facilitation of recommendations in order to improve compliance.
  • Work with the Clery Center to review and critique Annual Security Report. Implement recommendations for improvement in future Annual Security Reports.
  • Keep up to date with changes in policy and law that affect compliance reporting.


20% " Coordinate intake for students, staff, and faculty engaging with DOS
  • Work with Associate Dean of Students to develop a robust and efficient intake process for incoming conduct cases, student complaints, and academic integrity
  • Meet with students to answer basic questions about DOS processes and direct them to correct staff members
  • Maintain Maxient database " reaching out to students who fail to schedule meetings or miss sanction deadlines, adding communications and notes to cases, and ensuring staff have manageable case loads
  • Assist walk-ins to DOS with getting information, resources, and connections to professional staff


20% " Coordinate assessment efforts within the Dean of Students Office.
  • Work with staff team to determine data needed for each functional area to appropriately assess accomplishments, needed improvements, and student learning.
  • Work with staff team to determine and implement best practices, tools, and timelines to obtain desired data from students necessary to assess each functional area.
  • Work with staff team to review and interpret data received through assessment efforts. Identify successes and areas for improvement, inclusive of student learning, for each functional area.
  • Report on assessment practices, outcomes, and recommendations for each functional area.
  • Design and deploy assessments for feedback from students who engage in the following processes:
    • Code of Student Conduct violations
    • Academic Integrity issues
    • Conflict Resolution & Restorative Justice services and programs
  • Analyze and report out assessment data to DOS & SCC, providing recommendations for improvement
  • Prepare materials for annual reporting to Academic Affairs around all student misconduct, outcomes, and other issues deemed relevant by the Dean of Students and Associate Dean of Students.
  • Collaborate with DOS Office staff on incoming data requests and annual reporting
  • Manage and address data barriers between internal database systems
  • Be the departmental liaison to Enterprise Reporting & Data Warehouse Team (EDW) to support teams data needs


20% " Collaborate with DOS Staff on office operations
  • Develop knowledge and skills necessary to maintain existing database functions, build new information collection and reporting processes as needed, and to run scheduled or new reports or queries.
  • Liaise with Maxient users to determine how well they are being served by existing processes and reports. Make recommendations for improvements.
  • Ensure all Maxient users are FERPA training on an annual basis
  • Become familiar with new or modified Maxient tools. Utilize knowledge to improve upon existing practices.
  • Assist in on-going maintenance, clean-up, and reporting of data.
  • Working with DOS & SCC staff, create training & assessment program for student employees working in the two offices


5% " Other responsibilities within the Dean of Students Office, including the following:
  • Participate in communication/outreach efforts including presentations to faculty, staff, and students about the Dean of Students Office.
  • Serve on committees and attend meetings to represent the Dean of Students Office as needed.
  • Remain current on higher education trends including compliance, prevention, and assessment related issues.
  • In collaboration with DOS/SCC team, assist in planning large scale student outreach in the event of situations such as natural disasters & other big impact situations


Required Qualifications
  • Completed Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related field.
  • Experience documenting sensitive information and/or managing confidential records.
  • Experience collaborating and working on teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Clery, VAWA, and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Acts.
  • Experience with database management, preferably Maxient.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related field.
  • Experience working with federal compliance activities.
  • Experience working with sexual harassment/sexual misconduct response, prevention, and/or education.
  • Professional work experience in higher education.
  • Working knowledge of creating and deploying assessments
  • Demonstrated experience with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse urban student population including non-traditional students, students of color, and first-generation college students.
  • Experience making professional presentations to groups of up to 50 people.
  • Strong analytic skills with an ability to identify effective solutions


Work Hours
  • Full-time, 40 hours per week, Exempt
  • Monday through Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required
  • Hybrid schedule (on-campus and remote) available for this position
  • Travel: Never/Rarely


Salary for Announcement

The minimum of the pay range for this position is $45,300. We anticipate the qualified candidate to be placed between $47,300 - $56,650. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. Additionally, Student Affairs has committed to tying our salaries to an understanding of a living wage. To that end, we will not pay less than $47,300.

The above salary range represents the Universitys good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
