Position Title: Senior HR Partner, HR Shared Services

Position Overview:

The Senior HR Partner for the Departments of Emergency Medicine (DEM) and Otolaryngology (ENT) plays a critical role in independently managing human resource activities within UAB and UAHSF. This position provides strategic guidance, process expertise, and mentorship while fostering collaboration with HR Shared Services (HRSS) and department leadership. The role requires a deep understanding of the HR and business nuances of supported departments and the ability to provide cross-coverage as needed.

HR Shared Services supports a diverse range of departments, centers, and institutes, focusing on operational effectiveness and strategic HR partnerships. Employees in HRSS must navigate distinctly different cultures and business needs, requiring a high level of adaptability, collaboration, and continuous professional development.

Salary Range: $52,555 - $85,400

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic HR Management (60%)

  • Independently manage UAB and UAHSF HR services for DEM and ENT, supporting faculty, staff, students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, visiting scholars, and travelers.


  • Serve as a strategic HR advisor to departmental leadership, including Chairs and Executive Administrators, on HR matters such as recruitment, compensation, privileging/credentialing, performance management, international employment, faculty promotion and tenure, and organizational planning.


  • Interpret, implement, and ensure compliance with UAB and UAHSF HR policies at federal, state, and local levels.


  • Partner with SOM Dean's Office and HR offices across UAB and UAHSF to achieve HR objectives.


  • Develop and implement best practices tailored to departmental needs while adhering to institutional guidelines.


Transactional and Process Expertise (20%)

  • Manage HR processes across various UAB and UAHSF IT systems, including People Admin, Taleo, Oracle, Lawson, Kronos, and others.


  • Oversee HR transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with institutional requirements.


  • Complete and manage UAB and UAHSF HR forms and records, such as CRF, PLTF, MDSO/MSO, Cactus, and Faculty Data Forms.


Mentorship and Team Leadership (15%)

  • Serve as a senior team member within HR Shared Services, providing mentorship, training, and guidance to less experienced HR professionals.


  • Support a wide range of departments, including the Precision Medicine Institute (PMI), O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Institutional Research Core Program (IRCP).


  • Contribute to the development of HR practices and processes within HRSS to advance the institutional mission.


  • Lead training initiatives to build team expertise and ensure consistency in HR service delivery.


Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.


  • Seven (7) years of related experience is required.


  • Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.


  • Significant experience in HR management, preferably within a complex organizational structure.


  • Strong knowledge of UAB and UAHSF policies and systems is highly desirable.


  • Proven ability to provide strategic HR advisement and manage transactional processes effectively.


  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.


  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
