About the Role:
The role of Underground Construction Laborer is responsible for assisting the Directional Drilling crew in installation of duct and fiber optic cable and all tasks associated with construction projects such as prepare sites by cleaning, loading, or unloading materials, and removing hazards as needed. As a Laborer, Directional Drilling crew's helper, you will be responsible for assisting our experienced crew in all aspects of Directional Drilling operations. An OSP Laborer will also be responsible for operating equipment such as hydro vac as well as assisting in traffic control while crew members are working.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assists construction crew members with successful completion of assigned projects Assists in maintaining proper inventory on vehicle based on work assignment.
- Ability to assist in pulling out cable lines and other equipment used in installing cable wires.
- Install equipment and use assorted small hand and power tools.
- Operate vehicle and bucket lift safely, following all safety and traffic regulations.
- Basic daily maintenance of Company vehicle including fluids check, cleanliness vehicle organization.
- Assist in directing traffic flow in accordance with local and state DOT guidelines.
- Operate and care for construction equipment and machines.
- Help equipment operators, carpenters, and other skilled labor when necessary. Prep construction sites by cleaning obstacles and hazards.
- Load or unload construction materials.
- Put together and take apart temporary structures, such as scaffolding. Remove, fill, or compact earth.
- Follow instructions from supervisors. Assist craft workers.
- Perform site clean-up.
- Assist the Directional Drilling crew in the installation of duct and fiber optic cables
- Perform outdoor construction tasks such as digging, trenching, and backfilling Assist in the operation and maintenance of equipment and tools
- Follow all safety protocols and regulations
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Key Qualifications:
- HSD, or equivalent education, is required.
- 1-2 years’ experience working in construction or similar role.
- Valid Drivers’ Licenses, required.
- Must have an understanding of basic construction principles.
- Must have ability to follow directions.
- Must have the ability to operate manual and mechanical equipment necessary to complete jobs.
- Must have or be able to obtain knowledge of “safety systems” associated with aerial cable including set-up and emergency procedures.
Additional Notes:
- This position may require being on-call. Employees will respond to emergency calls between the hours of 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. This position may require weekend work, night work, and/or overnight travel.
- This position does require travel to different counties throughout Indiana.
- This position is performed in the field both outdoor and indoor conditions daily.
