Job Summary

Under the general direction of the IT Director of Application Development, develop complex web applications and provide immediate supervision to the application development team to support the School of Veterinary Medicine's administrative and academic functions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Extensive current experience developing web applications using .NET core and Entity Framework, Vue.js or similar front end frameworks, JavaScript, CSS, and HTML, and version control systems such as Git.
  • Experience working with stakeholders to evaluate current business processes, create system requirements and develop automated solutions.
  • Experience leading a team of developers, creating programming standards and processes, delegating work assignments, conducting code reviews and performance evaluations.
  • Experience developing secure code using secure software design practices, analyzing code for security vulnerabilities, and remediating vulnerable code.
  • Extensive knowledge of secure full stack web application development techniques using .NET, including MVC, EF Core, SQL, REST APIs, JavaScript frameworks, HTML, CSS.
  • Extensive knowledge in database design, stored procedures, packages and triggers and tuning methodologies using MS/SQL.
  • Interpersonal communication skills to express thoughts logically, both in writing and orally, communicate with technical and non-technical staff, prepare written documentation for diverse audiences, and articulate complex concepts to non-technical clients.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Current working experience in Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience extracting data and creating integrations with third party systems using REST APIs and/or linked database servers.
  • Experience mentoring or coaching staff.
  • Experience developing or converting ColdFusion applications to modern languages and frameworks.
  • Experience developing applications in a higher education or medical environment.
  • Knowledge of project management techniques.
  • Ability to supervise, motivate and coach a team of programmers.
  • Knowledge of campus-wide and system-wide administrative systems and the ability to reconcile these systems to those used within the Office of the Dean, academic departments and units within the School.

    Department Overview
    SVM-IT is a matrix organization consisting of the three main functions of Operations, Application Development and Project Management. Cross- functional services include Enterprise Computing Systems, Clinical/Lab Systems, Academic/Research Systems, and Administrative Systems. SVM-IT provides services to the faculty, students, staff and affiliates of both the School of Veterinary Medicine and the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH).
