The Radiation Oncology service at the Cornell University Hospital for Animals (CUHA) is installing a State -Of-The-Art Varian Edge Linear Accelerator and has immediate opening for Licensed Veterinary Technicians.
Join a team of board-certified veterinary medical and radiation oncologists, residents, students, a radiation therapist and licensed veterinary technicians (LVT) that help guide families through their pet's cancer diagnosis, providing the best quality of life possible. The most satisfying part of our job is forming strong bonds with our patients and their families over the course of their treatment and follow-up visits. You will use your training and expertise to provide technical assistance for routine and complex cases that require radiation therapy, diagnostic workups, and procedures. Some examples include:
- Oversee and assist in the diagnostic work-up of each patient, which includes venipuncture/catheter placement, administering and monitoring sedation, and assisting in minor medical procedures.
- Assist in the safe administration of anesthesia during radiation therapy treatments.
- Assist in the safe delivery of radiation therapy treatments following treatment protocols utilizing a state-of-the-art linear accelerator.
- Work closely with other hospital services to provide comprehensive patient care
- Shape the future of veterinary care through instruction of our diverse veterinary students and house officers.
What qualifications are required?
- Associate degree from an AVMA-accredited institution with 2 years of small animal practice experience.
- Eligible for NYS licensure.
- Interest in ongoing career growth and advanced skill development
- Excellent communication skills and willingness to work in a busy, team-oriented clinical environment.
- VTS (or interested in pursuing VTS) are encouraged to apply!
The Cornell University Hospital for Animals provides 24-hour care for pets 365 days a year, but most of our oncology appointments are outpatients seen during the regular work week. Occasional requests for additional coverage may happen due to caseload and need.
