Teaching Specialist or Lecturer in German - Military Veterans

at HERC- Upper MidWest

The Department of German, Nordic, Slavic & Dutch at the University of Minnesota invites applications for a 100% full-time, 9-month, non-tenure-track Lecturer/Teaching Specialist. We are seeking an innovative instructor and scholar who would teach primarily German language courses at all levels from beginning to advanced, with strong concentration at the intermediate level. Occasionally, the candidate may also teach content courses in the field of German Studies. The full-time teaching load for Teaching Specialists and Lecturers is three courses per semester. Instructional duties include teaching assigned courses, assisting with material and assessment design, holding office hours to assist and advise students, responding to student and department inquiries, and participating in relevant training and meetings. We would also require continued personal growth within the profession, keeping current with the field and broadening knowledge and expertise.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

M.A. degree or foreign equivalent or ABD in German Studies, Foreign Language Education, or a related field. Native or near native fluency in the German language. Demonstration of commitment to quality teaching and program development. At least two years of either postsecondary experience teaching German language or two years of teaching College in the Schools German.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. degree or foreign equivalent in German Studies, Foreign Language Education, or a related field. A strong background (e.g., coursework, publications) in foreign language education, second language acquisition, or technology-enhanced teaching is preferred. Experience working with curriculum development and/or secondary teachers. Positive evaluations from students, peers and/or supervisors.

Applicants with an M.A. will be appointed as Teaching Specialists. Those with a Ph.D. will be appointed at the Lecturer level.
