Join Our Team as an Air Force Junior ROTC Instructor
Roanoke City Public Schools (RCPS) is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Air Force Junior ROTC instructor to inspire and lead our students. This role offers an opportunity to shape future leaders while exemplifying the core values of integrity, service, and excellence.
Position Overview
Under the direction of the school principal, the ROTC instructor will:
- Provide engaging and rigorous learning experiences for students in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.
- Plan and teach classes in aerospace science and leadership education, using innovative tools and techniques.
- Lead and coordinate after-school activities such as drill instruction, physical training events, and academic clubs.
- Organize field trips and community service events to enhance cadet development and promote civic engagement.
- Serve as an ambassador of the Air Force, modeling professionalism and military standards in all interactions.
- Maintain appropriate records, monitor student progress, and support their academic and personal growth.
Qualifications
We welcome applications from retired Air Force officers and noncommissioned officers who meet the following criteria:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
- Experience: Extensive background in leadership, youth mentorship, teaching, and program management.
- Skills: Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication abilities. Experience with curriculum development and classroom technology is preferred.
- Certification: Must complete the Air Force Junior ROTC Instructor Certification Course and meet all local/state requirements.
Work Environment
This role is primarily based in a controlled classroom setting, with occasional exposure to outdoor environments during field trips, parades, and other activities. Instructors must be able to meet physical requirements, including standing, moving, and lifting light objects, with reasonable accommodations available as needed.
