College Shuttle and Safety Services Assistant Date Opened: 11/18/2024 08:00:00 AM Filing Deadline: 12/13/2024 Salary: $4,563.64 - $5,653.55/mo; $54,763.68 - $67,842.60/yr (based on a full-time, 12-month position) Job Type: Open and Promotional Definition Operates a light shuttle vehicle to pick up and transport students, faculty, and/or staff with disabilities and performs routine patrols to observe and report safety and security concerns at an assigned campus. Typical Duties Safely transports students, faculty, and/or staff with disabilities to various points within assigned campus areas using a light shuttle vehicle. Provides assistance to students with disabilities in boarding and exiting the vehicle. Maintains safe riding practices on the vehicle. Inspects vehicle prior to and at the end of each shift for mechanical condition affecting safety of operation and for physical condition of the vehicle. Adheres to assigned route unless service is suspended or rescheduled. Keeps vehicles in clean condition. Performs minor emergency maintenance and repairs. Reports the need for regular servicing or repairs of the vehicles to the immediate supervisor. Reports hazardous or dangerous conditions along route. Conducts routine patrols and inspections to assist by observing and reporting concerns regarding the safety and security of individuals, buildings, grounds and equipment. Assists in monitoring security systems such as intrusion detection devices, video monitors, and alarm systems. Reaches out to police or other emergency personnel to report crime and non-crime related incidents on an assigned campus. Provides directions to visitors, students, faculty, and/or staff. Performs parking enforcement tasks including checking vehicles for proper parking authorizations and issuing citations for parking and related violations. Directs traffic flow into parking lots and facilities and ensures efficient utilization of parking space. Provides safety escorts upon request. Maintains records and prepares reports related to observed incidents and problems. Performs related duties as assigned. Distinguishing Characteristics A College Shuttle and Safety Services Assistant operates a light shuttle vehicle to pick up and transport students, faculty, and/or staff with disabilities to various points within assigned campus areas and performs routine patrols to observe and report safety and security concerns at an assigned campus. A Courier drives a van or other vehicle of less than one-ton factory rated payload capacity in a variety of delivery assignments and performs routine manual and clerical duties. Supervision Immediate supervision is received from a classified supervisor or manager. No supervision is exercised. Class Qualifications Knowledge of: Operation of a motor vehicle Local traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations Safe driving practices Functions of the various parts of assigned transit vehicles Minor repairs and adjustments on assigned transit vehicles Customer service techniques for public contact in person Basic safety practices and procedures Characteristics and operation of basic security systems Basic procedures of facilities protection Theft prevention methods and techniques Operation and location of utility controls and 'shut-offs' Ability to: Drive with skill and safety Use sound judgement in emergency situations Work cooperatively, tactfully, and effectively with a diverse pool of visitors, students, faculty, and staff including persons with disabilities Make minor emergency repairs and adjustments to transit vehicles Follow written and oral instructions Write simple reports Maintain accurate files and records Learn policies and procedures pertaining to the safe transport of persons with disabilities Learn driving routes Learn security policies and procedures of the District Learn District parking and safety regulation Entrance Qualifications Experience: One year of full-time, paid experience driving a passenger shuttle, van or bus. Experience as a security guard or equivalent is desirable. Special: A valid Class 'C' California driver's license. SPECIAL NOTE: Prior to employment all successful candidates must provide proof of a driver's record with the California Department of Motor Vehicles that meets acceptable standards for the transportation of passengers.
