The Interventional Cardiology Physician Assistant (PA) for the UCSF Adult Cardiac Cath Lab requires expertise in the evidence-based care of the cardiovascular patient population. The PA, as a result of advanced education and in-depth clinical knowledge, possess the skills necessary to provide expert comprehensive care coordination for this clinically complex patient population. The Interventional Cardiology PA facilitates collaboration for patient care, with an emphasis on education, patient assessment and processes to address the needs of all cardiovascular, adult congenital heart disease, heart failure, and solid-organ transplant patients referred for interventional lab procedures. The PA utilizes specialized knowledge and skills within major areas of chronic care management related to this specific subspecialty of Cardiology including triage, medication review, patient education, establishing clinical protocols, drafting policies and procedures, education and training of nurses, rad techs, fellows, and APPs in the care of patients with various types of cardiovascular disease, while working in a multi-disciplinary setting. Partners with members of the inpatient and ambulatory care teams to assess, consent, discharge, and coordinate care of these complex patients. This position is the multidisciplinary resource and APP leader for patients referred to the interventional lab for procedures, with a focus on the pre-, intra-, and post-procedural management of outpatient procedures and/or inpatient procedures when working at the hospital. When in the pre- or post-procedural setting, the Interventional PA will be asked to document all patient encounters including video visits for patient intake, urgent referral, procedural complications, and medical management appointments. This work can be arranged to be performed remotely with prior approval and schedule coordination with leadership. When in the procedural setting, this role will provide first-assist back-up during routine diagnostic catheterization procedures and coronary interventions when certain skills targets have been met. This role compliments the interventional fellowship program by enabling intra-operative support to the labs' attending providers when fellows are unavailable due to other commitments. This role shall cover lab locations at the Parnassus and UCSF St. Mary's campuses when/if needed. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
