Responsibilities
The Principal Packaging Engineer is a position that develops and implements a technical agenda and is responsible for providing technical leadership for the Kitting Process Team at the Greenwood Innovation Center (GIC). This role will initially focus on the delivery of the kitting, packaging, and labeling operations and serve as primary liaison between internal and external parties. Upon the start of commercial production, this person’s objectives include maintaining the validated state of applicable processes, establishing metrics/methods to ensure a state of capability and control, evaluating and implementing process improvements, and serving as an escalation point for day-to-day operations issues. This role is expected to serve as a mentor within the Engineering team and engage in cross-functional discussions with clinical teams.
Key Objectives/Deliverables:
- Own the technical agenda for the GIC Packaging team.
- Represent the GIC Engineering team for internal and external communications on a regular basis
- Mentor GIC Kitting process team members, technical mentor for engineers, managers, and other disciplines
- Provide technical support to non-routine (e.g., deviation, complaint) investigations, including consultation on quality issues
- Create, Review and Approve, as required, relevant technical documents such as: Annual Product Reviews, Control Systems, Change Controls, Regulatory Submissions, Deviations, Validations, Procedures, PFDs, PFMEAs, etc.
- Work with Kitting Process Team and GIC Engineering Team to identify, procure, qualify, and maintain equipment and facility upgrades needed to implement Convenience Kitting operations
- Identify opportunities and lead technical projects to improve process control and/or productivity
- Work with internal and external customers to design, prototype, and implement convenience kits for various clinical trials
- Serve as Site Lead for printed packaging materials, serialization, Unique Device Identifier
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher an engineering, packaging science, or related field
- 5 years of experience in a manufacturing organization
Additional Skills/ Preferences
- Pharmaceutical and/or medical device manufacturing experience
- Experience in Serialization
- Root Cause Investigation Experience
- Demonstrated successful leadership of cross-functional teams
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Strong self-management and organizational skills
Additional Information
- Role is Monday through Friday. Must be flexible in providing support to accommodate other inputs (production schedules, shutdowns, etc.). Occasional extended hour and/or off-hour work may be required.
- Position will be based out of the Greenwood, IN site with ability to travel to other global Lilly sites as required.
- Some travel (domestic and international) may be required <5%
