Adjunct faculty areexpected to deliver course materials in a learner-centered environmentconductive to engaging students in the learning process. The faculty member inthis position communicates consistently and effectively with students, facultyand administrators, and responds to communications within a 24-hour period oftime. The faculty is responsible for managing this course through timelygrading of assignments, providing substantial student feedback withassignments, and submission of clinical evaluations, attendance and grades. Massachusetts Bay CommunityCollege invites applications for an adjunct faculty position in environmentalscience and/or biology from qualified applicants to teach both in-personlaboratory science courses in environmental science and/or biology.Responsibilities will include developing and teaching typical courses inundergraduate environmental science and/or biology. They will also demonstratean ability to engage, mentor, and work with diverse student populations. Theywill be comfortable offering hands-on laboratory courses by implementing activelearning strategies using current computer technologies, software, and tools.The candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teachingand learning, collaboration and professional development. Courses may be heldin the classroom at any of the three campuses (in-person), or in the hybrid oronline environment upon approval after completing training. However, thecandidate must be able to teach in-person on campus. Key Responsibilities and Duties: Work in collaboration with Science Department faculty to prepare syllabi and develop curricula in alignment with the Department's vision and needs; Meet students regularly at the posted class and laboratory times and teach undergraduate environmental science and/or biology courses and laboratories using effective instructional strategies that promote student learning consistent with the division's needs; Use appropriate assessment methods consistently and regularly to measure student understanding; Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in teaching and learning; Maintain excellent communication with students, department, and division staff throughout the semester; Submit midterm and final grade reports, attendance records, early alerts, and other reports pertaining to assigned courses by required due dates; Participate in appropriate laboratory safety training and follow laboratory safety guidelines and practices as directed by the Lab Manager or their designee; Teach at Wellesley Hills, Framingham, or Ashland campuses as assigned; classes may also be held at regional high schools and regional employers and other off-site locations; Participate in pedagogical training for distance learning and develop an environmental science or biology course for online teaching, as needed by the STEM Division; and Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Required Qualifications: Master's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Botany, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field; and Significant first-hand experience in a laboratory setting in one of these fields. Preferred Qualifications: Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity; Experience working in a diverse environment; Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students; and Interest in and availability to teach in-person biology and/or environmental science laboratory-based courses in Spring 2025 and beyond; Demonstrated commitment to academic standards, student learning, and student support; and Experience and training in online instruction.
