Position:
The College of Education invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month position in the Department of Secondary & Middle School Education beginning August 2025. Assistant Professor in Secondary & Middle School Education to teach courses in adolescent literacy for students in grades 6 – 12 with a focus on assessment and remediation of reading challenges in middle and high-school students. Expertise in adolescent literacy, disciplinary literacy, and writing is necessary.
Qualifications:
A doctorate in education with a focus on adolescent literacy or a closely allied field and at least three years successful teaching experience in a grade 6-12 setting. Demonstrated excellence in teaching. Demonstrated evidence of scholarly expertise in adolescent literacy and active research agenda. Proven ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student body and to support the University’s Diversity Strategic Plan . Experience with supervision or mentorship of teachers and pre-service teachers. Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Preferred qualifications include experience working in and with urban school settings as well as success in seeking external grant funding.
Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, work closely with interns, teachers, and students integrating inquiry and practice in the context of professional development schools; collaborate with colleagues across the college and region and demonstrate knowledge of curriculum, assessment, digital literacy, and multimodal literacies. Applicants will demonstrate the potential for strong research, excellent teaching, service, and external grant seeking aligned with the college’s expected outcomes of impact, innovation, and engagement toward R2 status and the university’s new strategic plan. Applicants will commit to shared governance through active participation and service to the department, college, university, and discipline.

Salary and Benefits :
Targeted Salary Range: $63,000 - $70,000 commensurate with experience.
