Summary
The Senior Buyer coordinates the procurement of goods and services such as raw materials, tools, machine parts, weldments, equipment, electrical components/supplies and MRO/other supplies for the organization. Actively seeks out and qualifies new manufacturing vendors capable of fabricating and assembling the complex components necessary for our organization's highly technical operations. Consistently meets company objectives by selecting suppliers whom achieve high marks in quality, delivery, price and reliability. Follows the purchasing policies and procedures and is highly skilled in fulfilling all essential duties and responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews requisitions, identifies and negotiates with suppliers to obtain best price, availability, quality and delivery.
- Coordinate with Production Control and the Production Team to align material requirements with manufacturing schedule.
- Monitors purchasing expenditures against budgets, identifying and addressing any discrepancies
- Selects products for purchase through knowledge, history, supplier profile, supplier survey and or engineering recommendation.
- Evaluates procurement methods, including direct purchase or bidding, to optimize cost and efficiency
- Expedite critical build items and arrange timely deliveries to meet the department "on-time" goal as determined by purchasing departments KPI's.
- Collaborate with quality assurance to resolve defective parts and provide supplier feedback
- Takes immediate action on those items which require supplier correction.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Ability to understand and effectively communicate complex technical information both verbally and in writing
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, blueprints, component specifications including Bill of Materials and Tolerances, or governmental regulations
- Ability to assess new vendor capabilities based on size, location, and manufacturing abilities and provide overviews to the Purchasing Manager.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as price vs. cost analysis, discounts, percentages, proportions, area, circumference, volume, metrics and interest.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to solve technical problems and deal with a variety of variables where limited standardization exists.
- Ability to respond promptly to inquiries from managers, production supervisors, production personnel, and customers.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a related technical field.
- Proven experience in strategic procurement, sourcing, supplier management and development within a manufacturing environment required.
- Minimum Five (5) or more years of progressive related experience in a manufacturing, industrial or other relatable industry required.
- Certification in procurement, supply chain management or related technical certifications are a plus.
