JOB SUMMARY:
Scope of Work - Main duties, settings, geography, reporting relationships, other relationships:
- This position, with limited supervision, is responsible for energy-related transaction/activities in the NYISO (New York Independent System Operator), PJM (Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maine Interconnection) and ISO-NE (Independent System Operator for New England) energy markets, submission of generation/dispatch bid/costs and load balancing activities. For postings associated with the 24-hour desk position, must be willing to work on a rotating shift cycle.
MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Scope of work - range of responsibilities):
Follow all aspects of and comply with the NYISO energy and capacity requirements.
- Prepare and analyze daily generator bids and load bid forecasting for NYSEG and RGE.
- Operate and maintain forecasting programs, databases, and tools.
- Produce short-term load forecasts and schedule/acquire physical power from the NYISO in the Day-Ahead Market.
- Estimate generation output, including impacts from Distributed Energy Resources ("DER"), and submit bids to the NYISO in the Day-Ahead Market.
- Enter physical and financial transactions internally to the NYISO as well as external transactions with PJM and ISO-NE.
- Coordinate with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) on unit performance/availability for system needs.
- Effective execution of transactions to hedge to the companies' open positions within approved risk management guidelines. Additionally, analyze strategies and/or structured transactions to reduce costs and risks to the Company's customers while meeting supply procurement goals.
- Responsible for developing and executing the hedging schedule for all NYSEG and RGE pricing zones in accordance with the Default Supply Option.
- Schedule and execute energy futures and capacity purchases for NYSEG and RGE (approximately 4.5 TWh energy and 10 GW capacity).
- Accurately complete deal tickets, confirm transaction details, and enter transactions into the Energy & Commodity Trading and Risk Management (E/CTRM) system accurately and in compliance with Energy Services Risk Management Procedures Manual.
- Maintain external relationships with Broker contacts.
- Resolve billing issues for all NYISO, PJM, ISO-NE, Power Purchase Agreements, and miscellaneous transactions.
- Where appropriate, capture and manage arbitrage opportunities through day-ahead and real-time transactions.
- Execute accurate budget development and variance reporting, developing responses, and completing other assigned tasks.
- Create, analyze, and issue NYSEG and RGE's Quarterly CoV reports for filing with the New York State Public Service Commission.
- Prepare NYSEG and RGE's Summer Preparedness and Winter Preparedness reports annually for DPS Staff. May liaise with state regulatory Staff on Preparedness Activities.
- Prepare, analyze, and distribute the Chairman's Report load reports (Daily and Weekly reports).
- Prepare, analyze, and distribute Mark-to-Market reports weekly, monthly and as requested.
- Extensive knowledge of the E/CTRM deal tracking system for developing new inputs, modifying views and reports and other various data outputs.
- Monitor real-time system load, generation and transactions and take corrective action as needed.
- Tracks and verifies all transactions of energy demand.
- Observes weather conditions and generator availability that may impact Company's financial position and subsequent load/generation bidding strategies.
- Acquire and distribute generation schedules and pricing from the NYISO.
- Enter real-time external transactions between the NYISO and PJM.
- Resolve real-time billing issues within E/CTRM.
- Prepare short-term price forecasts for NYISO and PJM Real-Time and Day-Ahead Markets
- Provides database management for internal databases of pricing information.
- Creates queries and programs macros to assimilate data into a central file (Access or Excel).
- Maintains several pricing programs, files, and databases.
May perform other duties, as assigned.
- Execute NUG dispatch and spark spread transactions, as needed
- Assist Gas Supply with pipeline data and daily load forecasting.
- Execute the purchase and sale of capacity and/or environmental attributes while complying with company's guidelines and/or policies.
- Responds to various data requests from upper management.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience Required :
- This position requires minimally an Associate's Degree from an accredited college/university in in Engineering, Business Administration or Sciences with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience required, or a Bachelor's of Science/Arts Degree from an accredited college/university in Engineering, Business Administration or Sciences with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in wholesale commodity acquisition and supply preferred. Similar experience with corporate purchasing and contract management, energy accounting and/or experience with SAP functions related to purchasing, supply management and accounting may be partially substituted for experience with wholesale commodity markets.
- Knowledge/experience in these areas desirable: electric energy and capacity markets, NYISO, NYISO MIS and JESS, PJM, and ISO-NE.
Skills/Abilities :
- Strong ability to work collaboratively and contribute as a member of a team to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Must be highly organized, self-directed, and capable of managing multiple responsibilities and deliverables to successful completion.
- Able to make quick and precise decisions.
- Knowledge of financial analysis and spreadsheets.
- For postings associated with the 24-hour desk position, must be willing to work on a rotating shift cycle.
- Advanced Microsoft Office suite experience including MS Excel and Access.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and results oriented.
- Extensive knowledge of E/CTRM Deal Tracking System.
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform detailed data verification efficiently and accurately.
- Ability to identify business risks and to develop and execute mitigating strategies.
