Position Overview:
Perform a variety of cleaning and disinfecting within their assigned buildings/areas to maintain a clean, safe work environment for the campus community. This is a full-time union staff position
Union Salary and Benefits:
The full-scale wage for the Custodial position is $26.00 per hour. New employees will be hired with a one-year training period. At the start of the training period, wages are reduced by $2.00 per hour from the base classification rates. Employees will receive a $1.00 per hour increase after six months, and another $1.00 per hour increase after twelve months.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
- Must have demonstrated ability, based on past employment history, to work independently and in a team environment.
- Must be neat in appearance and the performance of assigned duties.
- Must maintain a level of cleanliness as required by departmental and building standards.
- Must follow oral and written directions and instructions (labels). Requires ability to read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and to receive, understand, follow, and provide oral instructions.
- Must have the ability to work and interact with a diverse community.
- Ability to interact with campus visitors, contractors, and constituents in a helpful and friendly manner.
- Demonstrate general computer knowledge (Email/Calendar/Google Docs/Zoom/Work Orders).
- Must have the ability to be on-call for weather-related duties (snow removal). Must be able to work overtime to meet the needs of the campus and for special events. Must have a valid Minnesota driver's license (or ability to acquire one) and no moving severe traffic violations, if applicable. (NOTE: This Qualification must be on Project, Special, PM, and positions that include weekends)
Additional Job Responsibilities:
- Must have the ability to be on-call for weather-related duties (snow removal). Must be able to work overtime to meet the needs of the campus and for special events.
- Must have a valid Minnesota driver's license (or ability to acquire one) and no moving severe traffic violations, if applicable. (NOTE: This Qualification must be on Project, Special, PM, and positions that include weekends)
- This position requires driving campus vehicles, you must have an acceptable driver's license and be deemed insurable by the college.
Education/Experience/Skills:
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to read, comprehend, follow, receive and provide written instructions
- Ability to work all shifts: work on-call hours for weather-related duties (snow removal)
- Must have the ability to work overtime to meet the needs of the campus and for special events
- Basic knowledge of chemicals, proper labeling, and environmental health and physical concerns
- Ability to work with cleaning compounds/solvents
- Demonstrate general computer knowledge (Google email/Google calendar)
- Customer-focused: Ability to interact with campus visitors, contractors, and constituents in a helpful and friendly manner and the ability to work well with a diverse community
- Ability to work with limited supervision
- Ability to maintain the required level of cleanliness by departmental and building standards
Preferred:
- Previous or current experience working in a similar environment.
Physical Requirements:
Must pass a pre-employment physical (Including but not limited to: the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, balance, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, and the ability to push/ pull, lift/carry up to 55 pounds occasionally and 30 pounds frequently)
Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral work instructions, operations, safety procedures, and hazardous labels.
