Assistant Professor without tenure (WOT) - Academic Trauma Surgeon - Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine - Military Veterans

at HERC- Upper MidWest

Position Description
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine at the University of Washington is seeking a full-time orthopaedic trauma surgeon for a faculty position in our internationally renowned orthopaedic trauma program based at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, the only Level One trauma center for the five-state region. This position will be based at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Responsibilities will include patient care, resident and fellow education, medical student teaching, and clinical or basic research. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to develop a busy clinical practice encompassing all aspects of orthopaedic trauma surgery, as well as a robust program in clinical research, the study of educational methodologies, or basic research.

The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level (without tenure due to funding). The majority of School of Medicine faculty hired in the professorial track are hired under the WOT designation. Faculty appointed WOT have the same rights, responsibilities, and obligations as tenure-track and tenured faculty members at those ranks. However, faculty appointed as WOT do not hold tenure because all or part of their annual University-administered salary is derived from sources other than regularly appropriated state funds. This position has a flexible start date in fall of 2025. Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11-months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

Salary

The base salary range for this position will be: $18,334 - $20,000 per month ($220,008 - $240,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
