Department Summary The History Department houses the Public History Initiative, the Luskin Center for History and Policy, graduate and undergraduate programs, and a robust academic roster including faculty, lecturers, post-docs and visitors. Position Summary Provide individual academic counseling to History majors and minors. Work closely with faculty and administrators to achieve departmental goals, and participate in long-range planning for undergraduate program. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications Demonstrated experience in counseling new and continuing students, using sensitivity and sound judgment. (Required) Demonstrated experience in working effectively in a large, complex and dynamic organization. (Required) Demonstrated skill in successfully interacting with people of varied social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds. (Required) Strong background in program coordination, including defining priorities and goals, developing operation plans, analyzing problems, determining solutions, meeting deadlines and managing processes from inception to completion. (Required) Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships, interact effectively and diplomatically with staff, faculty, senior university administrators, students, donors and volunteers. (Required) Demonstrated skill in working independently and in following through on all assignments with minimal direction and in identifying opportunities for process improvements. (Required) Skill in organizing, developing, and implementing projects with minimal direction. (Required) Superior analytical skills to define problems and meet objectives, identify relevant factors and concerns, and recognize alternatives and their implications. (Required) Demonstrated ability to orient, train, organize and motivate staff and volunteers. (Required) Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters in a discreet and tactful manner. (Required) Demonstrated skill in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals and groups, utilizing clear and grammatically correct language. (Required) Demonstrated proficiency with various computer and database programs, such as MS Word, Excel, and Access.
