Massachusetts Bay Community College invites applicationsfor a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of AssistantProfessor of Mathematics from qualified applicants. The ideal candidate will demonstratea passion for teaching and promoting success among a diverse studentpopulation. Faculty members are responsible for developing educational andevaluation materials consistent with the philosophy and framework of MassBayCommunity College and the Mathematics program in accordance with the evolvingneeds of the STEM division. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion forteaching and promoting success among a diverse student population. The facultymember is responsible for maintaining expertise in mathematics curriculum,instruction, and assessment. The successful candidate willbe comfortable offering instruction in a variety of diverse methodologies andpedagogical styles. Examples include but are not limited to universal designfor learning (UDL), asset-based pedagogies, culturally affirming instruction,and equity-minded approaches. Responsibilities will include developing andteaching both developmental courses in Mathematics, as well as college-levelcourses, including Statistics, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus I and II. Teaching,advising, and mentoring are also expected to support students' growth asstudents with curriculum and teaching methodologies that encompass astudent-ready approach. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a solid understandingof a community college's mission, and an ability to work with community collegestudents with diverse learning styles, academic preparation, life experiences,and credit for prior learning. The successful candidate will demonstrate acommitment to collaboration across the College for advancing the state ofmathematics education at the College. They will demonstrate a goodunderstanding of shared governance and a strong commitment to collaboration andprofessional development. Courses may be held in the classroom at any of the threecampuses (in-person), or in the hybrid or online environment upon approvalafter completing training. However, the candidate must be able to teachin-person on campus. The candidate will have the opportunity to shape thecurriculum, assist the Mathematics Department in the selection and use ofappropriate educational materials and technology in the classroom, and engagein community-based outreach activities. Key Responsibilities and Duties: Teach a full-time (approximately 15 credit hours per semester) schedule of courses in Mathematics; Effectively communicate interpersonally orally and in writing; Work and collaborate effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff; Prepare course syllabi and develop curricula to meet course and program requirements and student learning outcomes; Serve as academic advisor to students, with expertise in advising and mentoring minoritized students; Post and maintain a minimum of four (4) office hours per week; Teach at Wellesley Hills, Framingham, or Ashland campuses as assigned; Collaborate on selecting, recommending, creating, and preparing suitable instructional materials that utilize a wide variety of teaching methods and modalities; Submit midterm and final grade reports, attendance records, early alerts, and other reports pertaining to assigned courses by required due dates; Serve on College committees as elected or appointed; Attend program, division, and committee meetings; Assist the program and STEM Dean in recruiting qualified adjunct faculty as needed; Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in teaching and learning; Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement; and Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Master's degree in Mathematics, or a relevant field from an accredited university; High school or post-secondary teaching experience; and Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom. Preferred Qualifications: Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity; Experience working in a diverse environment; Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students; Demonstrated versatility in teaching a range of courses offered in Mathematics; Experience in curricular planning and assessment as well as practices, technologies, and inclusive pedagogy to enhance student learning; Teaching experience in a community college and/or two years of teaching experience in credit-bearing courses at the college level; Fluency and/or experience teaching in Spanish and/or Portuguese; Familiarity with use of appropriate educational technology and equipment, including ability to work with computers, learning management systems, and other technologies that are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students; Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems; Familiarity with college accreditation standards; Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility, including understanding of the importance of holding oneself and colleagues accountable as educators for closing equity gaps and engaging in equitable practices; Experience reframing inequities as a problem of practice, and viewing the elimination of inequities as an individual and collective responsibility; Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students; Experience supporting institutional practices that both develop and sustain culturally responsive teaching and learning environments; and Experience with federal and/or state grants. Additional Information: Salary Range: $54,029 - $61,176,in accordance with one's education andexperience as dictated by the collective bargaining agreement classificationcompensation structure.
