Job Summary and Qualifications
The Director of Clinical Excellence & Infection Prevention ensures high quality, patient-centered care by supporting the coordination of the hospital-wide Infection Prevention Program, which includes surveillance, analysis, and reporting of hospital acquired infections, education of staff, and the development of health system policies, procedures, plans, and performance improvement projects to ensure rigorous infection prevention standards that meet regulatory requirements. In collaboration with the Quality leaders and Infection Prevention (IP) team, the Director of Infection Prevention makes decisions relative to the surveillance, prevention, and control of infections. This position must have the expertise to recognize and identify areas of opportunity, create effective solutions for resolution, coordinate, and execute. It requires interaction at the bedside and with patients, visitors, staff, providers, and division infection prevention leaders.
- Bachelor's Degree in Health Related Field required, Master's Degree in Health Related Field preferred
- 4+ years of experience in a clinical setting required
- 5+ years of experience in a leadership role required
- 5+ years of experience in Infection Control required
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice preferred
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required
What you will do in this role:
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for the hospital Infection Prevention program, as well as the annual Infection Prevention Risk Assessment and Plan in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. Participate in the development of facility policies and protocols to assist in the standardization of current practice.
- Engage with Employee Health leaders to provide input in policies, procedures, and practices for the hospital Employee Health Program in compliance with regulatory and division goals.
- Perform process evaluation and qualitative/quantitative analysis for department-specific and organization-wide infection prevention and control improvement opportunities.
- Promote interdisciplinary approach for the identification, tracking, reporting, and resolution of infection prevention and employee health issues.
- Identify situations that may present an infectious hazard to patients, staff, or visitors.
- Collaborate with all disciplines and departments to develop and update area-specific policies, procedures, and practices pertinent to infection prevention principles.
- Support emergency management activities and EOC through participation on environmental rounds, bioterrorism and patient influx planning, and emergency response drills.
- Cooperate with local community health and emergency management organizations in activities pertaining to disease control.
- Ensure proper maintenance of Infection Prevention patient database(s) using methods compliant with HIPAA.
- Prepare timely, accurate, and comprehensive reports and documents pertaining to the infection prevention program.
- Maintain current knowledge of and adherence to hospital, federal, state and local regulations, and OSHA and Joint Commission requirements pertaining to infection prevention. Maintain knowledge of and adherence to patient care standards, standards of practice, therapeutic and diagnostic measures, equipment, and procedures used in patient care as they relate to infection prevention.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, volunteers, visitors and other health care members.
- Serve as liaison and interface with all regulatory agencies and the health care community concerning infection prevention issues, to assure hospital compliance with infection prevention regulations.
- Assume accountability for promoting consistent, positive patient interactions that advance the agenda of unparalleled patient service.
- Foster a culture that inspires commitment to the vision/mission/values of the organization. Develop and implement strategies to elevate employee engagement.
- Supervise infection prevention staff in surveillance, prevention, and intervention of potential hospital acquired conditions/infections.
- Prepare and present hospital-wide orientation programs for new staff members, annual educational programs and other departmental- or hospital-wide programs as applicable to infection prevention.
- Conduct surveillance of all maintenance / renovation or new construction work to identify ongoing risks for patients, employees, and visitors to the facility.
- Facilitate the integration of principals of infection prevention into the planning of day-to-day activities of the hospital and evaluates risk for infection at all campuses.
- Review products related to Infection Prevention for appropriateness, disinfection, and cost effectiveness.
- Provide the clinical and financial data that support the Organizational vision, strategic plan and performance improvement goals.
Parkridge Medical Center is a 270+ bed hospital. We are near downtown Chattanooga. We feature comprehensive diagnostic, medical, and surgical services. These services include cardiovascular surgery and cancer treatment. These services include intensive care, orthopedic and spine surgery, and rehabilitation. The facility includes a state of the art neurosurgery program. Patients also have access to OB-GYN services. Patients have access to a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. They also have access to (NICU) and behavioral health treatment centers for children and adults.
