Position Specific Description

The Information Technology (IT) Business Unit is seeking a Principal SCADA Project Manager who is highly skilled in driving projects and lean methodologies to contribute to NEER IT team. In this role, the Principal SCADA Project Manager will be responsible for leading a large SCADA transformation project, connecting renewable generation and storage sites throughout the United States and Canada. Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to manage through influence are key to success in this role. The candidate needs to establish repeatable processes that can be followed by colleagues and partners. This position requires working with various teams throughout the organization including energy operations, engineering, and business management groups to communicate effectively on changes that will result from the complex SCADA system replacement initiative. Lastly, the candidate should have deep expertise in energy SCADA, ISOs/RTOs, AGC, ICS, DERMs, OpenADR, DERs, ICCP, VPP, FERC 841 & 2222, communication protocols including MODBUS, DNP3, IEC 61850, IEEE 2030.5, networking, IT cybersecurity principles, OT NIST and NERC CIP security standards, and energy market fundamentals including power scheduling, day-ahead and real-time markets.

  • Leads cross-functional SCADA transformation project through to completion.
  • Collaborates with business stakeholders and IT leadership to ensure project alignment strategic goals are met on time and on budget.
  • Create robust processes and SCADA/IT controls so onboarding and transformation steps occur correctly and in the right sequence.
  • Monitors project progress, identifying risks and issues, and implementing mitigation strategies as needed.
  • Engages with stakeholders at all levels levels to ensure effective communication, collaboration, and buy-in for improvement initiatives.
  • Drives a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing enhancements to existing processes, methodologies, and tools.
  • Monitors end-to-end business processes data for opportunities to improve throughout the transformation project.
  • Supports Corporate Quality Six-Sigma program.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 15+ years of experience
  • Project Management certifications in one or more areas - PMP, CSM, CSPO, PSM, CSP, PMI-ACP, SAFe SPC, or ITIL.
  • Deeper working experience in technology/software development, with a focus on Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, or Lean.
  • Experience with large scale SCADA systems from vendors such as GE, ABB/Hitachi, Aspentech
  • NERC-CIP Certifications and Accreditations such as GIAC GCIP, CISSP, CISM, CSSA,
  • Expertise in ISOs/RTOs, AGC, ICS, DERMs, OpenADR, DERs, ICCP, VPP, FERC 841 & 2222, communication protocols including MODBUS, DNP3, IEC 61850, IEEE 2030.5, networking, cybersecurity principles, and energy market fundamentals including power scheduling, day-ahead and real-time markets.

Job Overview

This position plans, executes, and finalizes projects, according to schedule and within budget. Employees in this role acquire resources and coordinate the efforts of team members including third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. Individuals define project objectives and oversee quality control throughout the project life cycle.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad / GED
  • Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience
  • Experience: 6+ years
