Marine Engineer - Military Veterans

at RecruitMilitary Placement Services

Our client is a small yet prestigious maritime service and consulting organization, who maintains a permanent presence in key locations such as New Orleans, Houston, Mobile, Savannah, Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Canada. This an international team of highly skilled and specialized captains, engineers, and naval architects with extensive at-sea and shore experience who are involved in high-profile maritime casualty investigation, assessment, accident scene reconstruction, commercial matters, cargo losses investigation, vessel inspection, auditing, training, ship repairs, dock damage investigation, and as subject matter experts in various US Federal courts. Here is a unique international team run by a former naval seafarer who wants to bring in likeminded seafarers to join his consulting team.

They are looking for ex-USCG or US Navy marine engineers for this role. A suitably hired person will be trained to understand various equipment and machinery onboard a merchant vessel, but the basic engineering and concepts are no different from a naval vessel. A marine engineering degree is a must unless you have ample experience in a civilian setting that will trump the necessary degree.

The job requires:

- Engineering inspection

- Damage assessment with causation

- Assistance during repairs and verification of repairs

- Engineering claim assessment

- Root cause analysis

- Engineering assessment and reporting

- Condition inspection of the vessels

- Technical audits and inspection

- Investigation of damages, causation, cost, repair options, and procedures

- Hull damage inspection and recommendation

- Attendance at dry docks to inspect hulls and underwater machinery, as well as supervision

- Steering and propulsion knowledge and inspection

- Automation and alarm log verification to understand the events that caused the incident

The above provides a broad insight into the scope of the job, where most employees learn during employment and harness their skills.

Base salary, $100 - $120K, a 401(k) with matching, heath, dental, vision and life insurance, an HSA, an employee discount program, PTO, a flexible schedule, professional development assistance, a referral program, and a retirement plan.
