The Opportunity

Seeking a dedicated enthusiastic Lead software engineer to join the Policy Modernization journey. We are building the first scalable Insurance Policy product on Guidewire with integrations to multiple on premises and off premises vendors and creating the first unified Digital experience. This position plays a vital role towards building resilient application using emergent designs, clean code, and automated pipeline validations in an iterative agile development process. This role will work with multiple IT teams across the enterprise and our Policy integration partners to enable the delivery of the solution in a complaint manner. Calling individuals that enjoy working to build impactful teams with high psychological safety, able work hard to meet timelines and bring in the lively element along the way.

The right candidate would have rich technical expertise and high curiosity to take calculated risks to move the technology forward to achieve business objectives with time sensitive delivery execution and the zeal to experiment & learn with a passion to drive solutions. They would also be a self-starter who can motivate team members towards building a “One team” spirit with continuous improvement.

This position is a hybrid work type and is based out of Plano, TX; San Antonio, TX; Charlotte, NC or Tampa, FL . Hybrid roles help employees gain the best of both worlds – collaborating in-person in the office and working from home when needed to achieve focused results.

Provides support to the Enterprise through delivering best in class technology solutions. Engaged in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle which include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing, testing, documenting, and implementing software, responding to outages.

What you'll do:

  • Design, develop, code, and test complex cross functional technical solutions, often collaborating with Engineers or Architects outside of team/department.

  • Leads the team in code/design reviews to ensure smooth daily operations and accurate planning for multiple teams.

  • Organize work and lead multiple teams to deliver features and solutions.

  • Independently resolves complex production issues and leads troubleshooting of end-to-end solutions that span multiple applications and systems.

  • Mentor and coach junior / experienced engineers.

  • Work with architecture to help define directions for cross functional or highly complex key technologies within a specific domain.

  • May begin advancing professional development through active participation in industry organizations, writing programming publications, pursuing educational opportunities, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.

  • Leverages Site Reliability Engineering practices in their domain.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree.

  • 8 years of software development experience demonstrating depth of technical understanding within a specific discipline(s)/technology(s) to include 2 years demonstrated leadership driving enterprise technology projects or initiatives.

  • 6 years of experience delivering technology solutions in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle.

  • Highly proficient in software engineering languages and tools; ability to develop on multiple platforms.

  • Knowledge and advanced experience of leading code/design reviews.

  • Demonstrated ability to address complex production issues by troubleshooting applications and systems.

  • Ability to quickly understand applicable business acumen to provide appropriate Engineering solutions.

  • Deep Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL.

  • Demonstrated experience working with cloud technologies and tools.

What sets you apart:

  • 4+ years of experience in large AWS Cloud Migrations and or establishing new Cloud environments.

  • 6+ years of Java Rest Services , REACT and Database technologies

  • 4+ years of experience designing and building of multi-tenant AWS Cloud IaaS Solutions employing design patterns of Serverless, events, messaging, distributed caching etc. using Spring, OpenShift, Kafka, BMC Control M

  • 4+ years of CICD experience and building and maintaining software delivery pipelines using tools such as Gitlab and testing automation using JUnit/Mockito/Spring Test/Wiremock/Jest

  • 2-4 hands on experience with Openshift on-prem deployments and EKS deployments in AWS into production

  • 4+ years on hands-on experience in Terraform development to facilitate auto provisioning infrastructure-as-code and using Artifactory repositories and Cloud Databases.

  • 4+ Experience & understanding of multiple AWS technology and services like IaC, IAM, EKS, SQS, Fargate, Lambda, S3, RDS, Secrets Manager, Qlik, Macie, Datadog etc

  • Proficient in building monitoring and alerting dashboards employing strong SRE principles

What we offer:

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $115,240 - $220,270.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
