??Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Animal Surgical Specialist collaborates with other members of the laboratory in a team setting on the creation, management, and execution of in vivo animal experiments. The Rodent Surgical Specialist works collaboratively with multiple laboratory members and outside collaborators. Performing survival surgeries, including but not limited to: orthotopic pancreatic transplantation, retrograde pancreatic duct instillation, tumor biopsy. Performing basic animal procedures, including but not limited to animal husbandry, IP injections, oral gavage, tail vain injections/bleeds, retroorbital bleeds. Performing preclinical imaging (ultrasound or equivalent) for tumor growth measurements and radiologic analysis. Necropsy, blood, tissue collection and processing. Performing standard protocols in molecular or cellular biology, including but not limited to: PCR, genotyping, cell culture, irradiation, genetic modification of cells. Data compilation, analysis, and reporting with team. Updating and maintaining laboratory IACUC protocol and ensuring that all users are operating under its compliance. Complying with IACUC inspections and is responsible should any deviations or findings occur. Ordering, handling, tracking use of controlled and regulated substances for rodent survival surgeries Innovating and improving rodent surgical methods and expanding laboratory repertoire to include new surgical techniques. Training other lab members on animal procedures, including but not limited to survival surgeries, preclinical imaging, animal husbandry, genotyping.
