Our T-32 Cardiovascular Research Fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Smidt Heart Institute is a robust post-doctoral training program that prepares individuals for productive and fulfilling careers within cardiovascular research. It fosters the development of PhD and physician investigators who require rigorous formal training to translate basic and clinical research to the clinical practice of cardiovascular medicine. The fellowship’s proven success is based on an approach comprised of three collaborative components: education, mentorship, and hands-on research. The program is under the leadership of Eduardo Marban, MD, PhD Mark Siegel Family Foundation Distinguished Professor Executive Director, Smidt Heart Institute and Joshua I. Goldhaber, MD Dorothy and E. Phillip Lyon Chair in Laser Research. The fellowship program is supported by more than 20 principal investigators and support staff resulting in a robust foundation for training. Program training and success of graduates Trainees will select one principal investigator as mentor and will then be assigned a complimentary clinical or basic science mentor as part of our team-based mentoring system. Basic course work in statistics, responsible conduct in research, and research methodology is required depending upon previous education. Ongoing research in the principal investigator’s laboratory will culminate in submission of a career development award (K award or equivalent) by the end of two years. The possibility of extension is based on productivity and research. Previous trainees have attained faculty positions in academic institutions as well as leadership positions in industry. Educational Requirements: The successful candidates (MD, MD/PhD, PhD or equivalent) will either have relevant basic science training and a desire to learn how to apply basic science principles to translational cardiovascular research, or clinical and/or health services research training related to cardiovascular disease and a desire to gain additional expertise in research methodology. At this time, we can only accept applicants who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. PhD candidates must also be within three years of receiving their degree, and MD candidates must be within one year of completing their clinical training. Experience: Strong research lab experience is required. In order to qualify for the role. You must be a U.S Citizenship or U.S. Resident. Physical Demands: Standing, lifting, sitting for periods of time.
